Note: the ceiling ties had to be added to cover the protrusion of the old roof. Friends suggested we just saw the old roof off. However, that would only open the room up to the attic above the adjoining room which is well insulated with cellulose. If you've ever "played" with cellulose you know what a mess that can be and how it just loves to "fall out". We opted for the ceiling ties.
See those discolored ties? Those are recycled from John's shingle lifting invention which were recycled from the old support beam in the room. Hopefully they will stay put this time!
